Special thanks to…

Spike T Smith & Charlie Rogers, who deputised for regular drummer Mark at the Market Inn, Kettering gig on Saturday 15th October.

Mark had a call-up for stage show ‘Rock of Ages’ in Wisbech & it was too good an opportunity for him to turn down. http://www.anglestheatre.co.uk/rock-of-ages.html Rather than Grounded cancel their gig, they called upon the undeniable talents of Spike & Charlie.

Although Mark’s son, Charlie, has made a couple of one song appearances in the past, it was Spike’s first outing with the band. There hadn’t been any opportunity for rehearsals with either. However, Grounded were unfazed by this…

Spike is an outstanding drummer with a plethora of live & studio experience including tours with ‘Morrissey’, ‘The Damned, & local metal outfits ‘English Dogs’ & ‘The More I See’… to name but a few! He is also an exceptional drum tutor & one of his current students is Grounded lead guitarist Ed! Thanks Spike, it was an honour to have you appear with us & we enjoyed some interesting fills & double-kick! http://www.spiketsmith.co.uk

Charlie is a third generation drummer, having grown up listening to his dad and his grandfather, Paul, of ‘One Eyed Cats’ notoriety. He was a shoe-in on the four numbers he performed & will undoubtedly be making more appearances with Grounded in the future.

Having a different line-up kept the regular band members on their toes. There were many communicative facial expressions & hand gestures to orchestrate along the way, which resulted in some improvisation & alternative endings… it all went a bit Prog Rock a couple of times!

Thanks again to both; we had a really enjoyable evening.
